About the Instructor:

Alex Anderson

In 2009, upon returning to the United States after teaching English in Spain, Alex chose to explore career opportunities directly related to her passion for health and fitness. Her first step on this path began with Maria Garre and Prana Flow Yoga®, a Vinyasa style of yoga created by master yoga teacher, Shiva Rea.

By 2010, she had completed her 200-hour RYT in the Prana Flow Affiliate Teacher Training program at Ananda Shala Yoga and Pilates studio in Frederick, Maryland. During this time, she also worked as a Teacher Training Coordinator for Samudra Yogadventures, Shiva Rea’s personal yoga company. This same year, she received her Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Group Exercise Certification.

After teaching yoga at Ananda Shala and starting her 300-hour yoga certification in Prana Flow Yoga® with Shiva, she relocated to  Washington, DC in 2010 to teach group fitness and yoga classes throughout the DC metro area.

Alex returned from volunteering as an English teacher in Northern Bali in 2013, where she also taught yoga at the Bali Mandala Resort. She relocated to Richmond after her experience in Bali and is loving being able to practice and teach yoga in such a welcoming community! She is currently working as the Associate Director of Wellness at the YMCA, Tuckahoe branch.

Alex encourages yoga practitioners in her classes to live consciously and authentically, while stretching and strengthening body and mind through creative vinyasa sequencing, mediation and pranayama.
