JAMES RIVER SCRAMBLE 10K TRAIL RUN presented by GOAL ZERO

Saturday, May 19th – 6 p.m.

Along the course you may encounter roots, gravel, rough terrain, low-hanging branches and possibly stray bulldogs. Up for the challenge? You’ll get to experience firsthand some of RVA’s best outdoor gems including the Canal Walk, the James River Park System, Belle Isle and the Floodwall. This is not a race for walkers.

Course Description:

The start is on Tredegar Street between 5th and 7th Streets.  You will head east on Tredegar Street. Turn right onto 10th street (this is a diagonal road going toward a parking garage) and follow the road around to the left before going down some stairs to the canal walk and staying right heading east.  At the end of the canal walk stay right around the back of the floodwall.  Go right and across the river on 14th Street over the Mayo Island Bridge. Make a right on the Floodwall walkway and continue up the floodwall (where you can find the best views of downtown and the river) and under the Manchester Bridge. Here you will have to climb a series of very steep steps on the side of the old Manchester Bridge, also known as the Mayan Ruins.  The runners will go up the stairs and across the bridge over the railroad tracks to the back-side of the SunTrust Building and go under the Lee Bridge along Riverside Drive.  Runners will then go west on the Buttermilk Trail to just before Reedy Creek.  Here you will turn right and go under the railroad tracks through a culvert toward the river.  Turn right out of Reedy Creek on a series of trails back to the "dryway". Cross the "dryway" by rock hopping across the dry river bed to Belle Isle. Go up a steep trail and along the top of Belle Isle heading east and back down a major hill. At the base of the hill, cross over to the east trail of Belle Isle and back across the pedestrian footbridge to Tredegar Street and back east to finish on Brown's Island.
