Try A Kayak

Jackson Kayak and Appomattox River Company are providing recreational kayaks for any festival-goer to paddle around in the canal during Dominion Riverrock free of charge. Being on a kayak is one of the best ways to see some of the excitement on Brown's Island. Come one, come all! The kayak demos are FREE to the public. Kayaks and paddles will be provided. Check in just below the vehicle access bridge to Brown's Island. Appomattox River Company store representatives will be on hand to teach you proper techniques.

Try A SUP

A what? A SUP - or a Stand Up Paddleboard. SUP is one of the fastest growing watersports in the world, and you have a chance to experience the fad. In addition to the two competitions (SUP Cross and SUP Enduro) at the festival, we're also offering free SUP demos for anyone interested in giving it a try. All SUP's and paddles are provided by Boardworks Surf and Appomattox River Company. Check in just below the vehicle access bridge to Brown's Island. Appomattox River Company store representatives will be on hand to teach you proper techniques.

Group Hikes

Dominion Riverrock is partnering with Central Virginia Trailblazers, an outdoor adventure group that plans hiking, backpacking, camping, paddling, and biking events throughout the year, to offer group hikes around Belle Isle during the festival. Belle Isle is one of Richmond's gems - a haven for nature lovers and fitness junkies - and you can catch a glimpse of its beauty by participating in a quick and easy 30-40 minute hike around the island. The group hikes will leave from the Central Virginia Trailblazers booth in Historic Tredegar and start each hour, on the hour beginning at 12:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The final hike will depart at 3:00 p.m. each day, totaling eight opportunities to get your tour on. Hikes are limited to the first 20 people. Click here to sign up.

Try Bouldering

You've seen the pros scale the caves at the Boulder Bash and thought "I can do that...". PROVE IT! Located in the Tredegar Ironworks parking lot, the Peak Experiences Demo Wall gives everybody a chance to see what it's like to climb inside our one-of-a-kind bouldering cave. Once you give bouldering a try, you'll be hooked. And who knows, we may see you competing with the big boys and girls next year!

Try Slackline

What is slacklining? It's the act of balancing along a narrow strip of flexible webbing, basically a 2-inch wide trampoline. Why? It's a FUN (and FREE) challenge, not to mention a great balance trainer that strengthens the core and lower body. Slackline Industries will have several styles of beginner slacklines set up over a padded area for everyone to try. It's fun for all ages and if you have never tried it, this is the place to do it. Find us in the Historic Tredegar parking lots, with pro athletes on hand giving pointers on the basics and some entry level tricks. Before you know it you'll be hooked and amazed at what you see the pros doing at Dominion Riverrock's Slackline Invitational!

SUP with your Pup

We will have two, 30-minute demo sessions.  The first session will take place on Saturday, May 21st from 1:30-2:00 p.m. and the second on Sunday, May 22nd from 3:00 - 3:30 p.m.  In order to sign up for a session you will need to check-in at the Ruffwear booth on Brown's Island.  There is a maximum of 8 participants plus their dogs so space is limited.
